Beijing School for the Blind, formerly known as Gusou Literature Library, was founded in 1874 by a Scotsman named Mu William. 1921 The school moved to the present site and was renamed "Qiming Blind Institute". 1954 It was renamed Beijing School for Blind Children and was taken over by the Beijing Municipal People's Government. 1985 It was renamed "Beijing School for the Blind" under the direct administration of Beijing Municipal Education Commission. In July 2006, the former Beijing Materials Reserve Staff Secondary Professional School merged with the Beijing School for the Blind to form the new Beijing School for the Blind.
